Our mission

We’re a Queen’s design club focused on all things cleantech — sustainable energy, carbon capture & utilization, energy storage, etc.

We believe a comprehensive understanding of carbon removal and emission reduction technologies is necessary to fight climate change effectively. That’s why our mission is to give students experiential learning opportunities in clean tech.

Our vision is to be a clean-tech design hub which focuses on building projects and educating students across multiple sectors within clean-tech.

Filling a Void

Although there’s a lot of interest at Queen’s in cleantech, there are few design opportunities for students to get involved and safely build cleantech projects (insured, with support & mentorship).

Currently, there are 3 teams/clubs at Queen’s where a student can work on cleantech projects:

  1. Relectric - converts gas cars to EVs.
  2. QSDT - plans solar designs for houses (does not build).
  3. QVFT - building a vertical farm in Kingston.

These teams are great, but there are large gaps in hands-on experience for students interested in carbon removal (capture and storage), forms of alternative energy generation (nuclear, wind), and emission reduction technologies (carbon-negative materials, etc).

Our goal is simple, we want to fill those gaps. In our view, that’s a missed opportunity for students to learn and gain relevant industry experience.

What We are Building

We are building an “umbrella” club where people can join, and choose their own adventure. Ratifying and building a club is a lot of work, so we want to set up infrastructure to allow students to focus on one thing: building.

We have created “nodes” based on interest within the club. A node would be responsible for its own project within a unique sector of cleantech. These nodes don’t have to compete, but they have to build something that can be demoed at the end of the school year.

Having a nodal structure allows us to be adaptable with the projects/initiatives that we build and the culture that we foster:
